Volunteer Orientation

Join us the evening of Monday, November 14th for our Family Mentor & Youth Mentor Volunteer Orientation.

Orientation Details: Monday, November 14th | 6:30-8:30pm | Held virtually over Zoom. The Zoom link can be found here.

We are in need of adult family mentor and youth mentor volunteers to pair with refugee families and youth. Volunteers should be able to come alongside those resettled in the Portland Metro area. With families living from Gresham to Beaverton/Tigard, we need your support. Mentors walk alongside a refugee family, individual, or youth for one year, meeting weekly, with the goal of meeting tangible needs and providing friendship to those who are rebuilding their lives in Oregon.

Family Mentorship: With the goal of enabling and empowering families to be self-sufficient, mentors connect the family or individual they’re paired with to community resources and aid in integrating to life in Oregon.

Youth Mentorship: Middle school and high-school students in this program are in need of social, academic, or emotional support as they transition to life in Oregon. Students benefit from recreational activities, exploration of interests, goal setting, possible schoolwork help, and having a trusted friend.

After attending this volunteer orientation, you will be invited to fill out an application, agree to a background check, and meet with a Refugee Care Collective team member before being paired as a family or youth mentor.

Thank you for your care of our new neighbors and for coming alongside those who are rebuilding their lives. We hope you can make it!
